How is the story of our past told? It is not found in a book yet. Instead, it is told in county land transfer records,
city directories, deeds abstracts, census tables, maps, newspaper archives, factory records,
old photographs, biographies. It’s also told by the things we see around us every day:
our houses, the factory and old store buildings along Rogers, the streets, the sidewalks,
and even the old trash we turn up when we dig in our gardens.
The material on these pages represents the preliminary results of research conducted by E. Sieber, beginning in 1996. The sources for much
of this work are found in the Monroe County Public Library's Indiana Room, the Genealogy Library of the Monroe
County Historic Society, and the Monroe County Courthouse.
